Ask for the method, not only the result
Terms such as low dust, strong clumping and effective odor control are too broad to serve as acceptance criteria on their own. Ask how the sample is prepared, what is measured or observed, how long the test runs and what result is considered acceptable.
Use the same method when comparing suppliers or formulas. A change in litter depth, liquid quantity, waiting time or handling can change the result even when the product is the same.
Match each check to the product
Dust assessment may consider loose fines and visible dust during pouring or handling. Clumping checks are relevant to clumping products but not to every crystal, paper or wood litter. Odor-control assessment should state the odor source, exposure time and evaluation method.
Moisture, particle size, bulk density and pack condition may also matter, depending on the product specification. Buyers should prioritize the checks that relate to the product's claims and customer experience.
Agree on quality records before ordering
Before production, confirm the approved sample or specification, inspection responsibility, sampling approach and documents to be supplied with the order. Do not assume that every proposed test is performed on every batch unless this is stated in the agreement.
If third-party inspection or laboratory analysis is required, define the method, laboratory, timing and cost responsibility in advance.
